What challenges do we face?

People living with epilepsy often feel alienated from the world around them. Because while seizures are often quite visible, most of the challenges we face are invisible: we deal with triggers, tiredness, memory problems, side-effects from medication, anxiety, and more. These invisible challenges sometimes lead us to have trouble with work, with education, and with relationships. Yet, the invisible causes of these troubles are hard to explain to others, and this can make us feel alone, isolated, and misunderstood; it’s hard not to feel as if we were aliens from another planet. This sense of alienation takes its toll on our mental and physical health, making life with epilepsy even more difficult.
